How Sefthy Works

Sefthy does two things at once. It keeps the backup of your customers’ servers and, when one of those servers goes down, it brings it back up in our cloud. The restored server answers on the same IP address it had on site, so nobody on the customer network has to change anything.

The two parts

The Connector is the bridge between the customer network and the Sefthy cloud. In normal times it watches the devices in the Disaster Recovery plan. When you start a restore it extends the local network up to the virtual machine in the cloud.

The Sefthy Agent is the program you install on the server you want to protect. It detects the hardware, copies the data to Sefthy storage and keeps the recovery points current, then stays there and tells you whether a restore would really start.

What happens when you start a DR

1. On the DR page you press Initiate DR and pick Cloud as the destination.
2. A recovery virtual machine starts in the Sefthy cloud.
3. From the Console you choose the day, the snapshot and the disks to restore. You decide the recovery point here, not in front of the server.
4. The Connector extends the site network up to the virtual machine, every protected VLAN included.
5. The restored server answers on site with the same IP address as before.

The link between the Connector and our cloud stays up even when no disaster is going on, so at restore time there is nothing to build from scratch.
